Species Description

Selenotypus Sp. Gold are a typical arid species, as in they are slow growing, and the majority are pretty defensive. The adults are a nice tan colour on the legs and body with a dark brown abdomen. they also have a very pretty velvet look to them. A smaller Secies growing to about 120-150mm in legspan.

I have found Goldmember to be a really slow grower, but has shown me no aggression. Likes to burrow and doesnt silk much at all. She has  2 burrow enterances but i never see her in them, she is usually out and about awaiting her next meal :)

4th of January 2008

Goldmember was my first ever tarantula. I got her as a tiny 2nd instar spiderling along with a little Wallace's Birdeater spiderling.

January 29th

Goldmember moulted into a 3rd instar Spiderling.

 March 12th

i nearly lost little Goldmember to Nematodes. It was very lucky that i attempted the salt water treatment witch just so happened to work like a charm! (i will post the salt water treatment at a later date) heres a pic of my Goldmember covered in nematodes and practicaly lifeless. Nematodes look like white threads on the body of your tarantula. They will mainly congregate on the foveal groove and in the joint of the cephalothorax(head) and the abdomen(bum) until they make their way inside your pet to eventually kill them. Horrible little things!

April 3rd

Goldmember recovered from the treatment very well and a few weeks later she moulted again, into a 4th instar Spiderling.

 November 22nd

Goldmember moulted again. Being an Arid/Desert Tarantula she is a very slow grower. And by this time i could actually take a picture!

Heres her in between moults,  lookin' fine

24th of January 09

She moulted into a 6th instar. she's grown heaps since i first got her, when she was small as a 5cent coin!

to show how much she's grown, i saved all her moults and made a timeline

Still waiting on the next moult. she's looking like a real tarantula now! i will keep you updated with pics and info :)

She's gettting that velvet sheen to her.
